How to Be Couragous

February 6th, 2009 by Andrew

What is courage?  The simplest and most accurate definition I’ve heard is “doing right”.  Doing the right thing, taking the right action that’s what courage is.  Courage isn’t necesarily saving one’s life by putting yours in danger.  That usually only happens in the movies.  In our everyday lifes courage might simply mean being authentic and honest with others.  It might mean leading the life you always wanted even if others oppose your choices and your views on things.  Courage might mean simply living a lifestyle that you see fit yet your parents don’t approave of.  Courage might mean taking responsibility for your own actions and deciding to focus on what you can control instead of focusing on what’s outside of your personal boundry.  What’s one couragous act you can do today?  Please share in the comments.

Controversy - Not for the Play it Safe crowd

February 5th, 2009 by Andrew

Most people want success without any kind of risk.  Sounds stupid when you read it I know but think about it.  How many people talk about starting their own business one day?  A lot.  How many do?  Very few.  Why?  Very few are willing to take risks.  And to the risk takers goes all the rewards.  Now A reward for taking a risk might not be success, it could be just learning a new life lesson.  Sometimes such lessons can only be learned by taking a risk.

Now I guess I should clarify by risk I don’t mean doing something that put you in physical danger, rather a logical risk.  A good example is leaving a steady paying 9 to 5 job to start your own business when you have no idea whether you’ll succeed or not.  The truth is, even if you had a bullet proof business plan, it can fail.  But you’ll never know until you take the risk and try.

This doesn’t just apply to business but all areas in ones life.  You’ll never know if that hot guy or girl will go out with you until you approach them and introduce yourself.  It might workout or it might not.  Certainly the more risks you take, the higher your chances are of succeeding in life.

Why Money is Worthless

February 5th, 2009 by Andrew

What is the value of money?  Well it’s the value society assigns to it.  What’s the value of a five dollar bill?  Can you really explain it without thinking of what you can purchase with the bill?  A five dollar bill is just a peice of paper.  A thousand years ago it would have been worthless.  However today especially in America it has value to it.  How come?  Because as a nation we decided to give it value, we decide it to use to facilitate the exchange of goods, it’s a system of trust we agreed upon.

With the falling economy, the falling value of the dollar and the tough financial times many are wondering whether the dollar will become worthless one day.  I think that’s the wrong question.  Because the dollar is just a peice of paper.  I think one needs to focus on the work and effort that goes into making a dollar.  That work and effort is the real value.  As long as one is willing to work hard and create value for others then they will get value back.  So the question should be, am I creating value for others?  or how can I offer more value to others?

A New Look For This Blog

February 5th, 2009 by Andrew

I was checking out some new themes the other day and wondering if I should change the colors or theme of this blog.  The current blog’s theme is actually a custome one.  I found a simple older theme and kept modifying it until I came up with the theme I’m using now.  I kinda of like it the way it is now because of the fast simple layout.  However I also realize that others like fancier themes and looks.  So what do you think?  Should I keep this layout?  or Should I install a fancier one?  If you are a blogger and like a certain theme for wordpress then feel free to also include a link to it in your comments, I will take a look at it.

What is Personal Development?

February 5th, 2009 by Andrew

While this is a personal development blog it was brought to my attention the other day that not everyone knows what the hack “personal development” is? Well I would like to break it down.  Personal development is really all about self improvement.  Now this can be broad since one can improve any area of his or her life.  But I found that most personal development topics generally fit in three categories: better health, better finances, or better relationships. The common factor in most personal development posts or topics is making progress or acheived some kind of success.
