How to make money from Blogging

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Today blogging has become so simple that even an internet newbie can do it. It’s not just fun that attracts people to blog, it’s also the money that attracts many towards blogging. There are numerous methods to earn from your blog. An important thing that might me helpful is the affiliation of the blog. If you are having blogging in mind, then don’t forget to affiliate your blog else it’s a waste.

Now, you might ask me what affiliation means? Affiliation is part your plan. Affiliation could be done easily through one of the many sites which are available these days. It’s just like a sale. When you affiliate your blog with any of the websites, their visitors count increases drastically because of you. You will be paid accordingly

But, affiliation is just the second part. The most crucial thing is your interest in improving your blog with new contents and fresh ideas. The contents should be regularly updated else there will be a sure decrease in your visitors count. To avoid this you should start blogging on things that you like. This will make you more enthusiastic in your work and you will never get bored.

The first thing in affiliation of your blog would be signing up. Most of the websites have free signup options and you will be provided with an ID which would acknowledge you as a referrer of their customer. If any of your visitors buy their products or just visit their site because of you, then you would receive payment from them which would depend on that product purchased. You might earn a few cents or even a few dollars.

After setting an account with the affiliate program you should start working right away. Paste their sites code in your blog. Try helping their product sales by adopting various methods. You can do reviews about the products that the affiliate is selling. Another method is to add a recommendation listing of the users who have got a real good experience with those products.

Don’t be always selling through your site. As said before concentrate on your content so that you get some regular visitors. You may write movie reviews, current affairs, jokes, health tips and so on. Side by side keep an eye on the affiliate program. Your visitor should be satisfied with your contents as well as your affiliate.

It’s not necessary that you should be an expert in writing. You are just writing for fun and to make some money. Find the affiliates who are more related to your blog. You are thus helping them increase their site traffic. It all happens on commission basis. You can even become an affiliate to others. Thus you might also experience an increase in your sites traffic. You can have blogging as your time pass. Now, what’s preventing you? Just go blog yourself.

Discomfort is a Prerequisite for Success

The biggest roadblock to achieving a goal is often wanting to stay inside our comfort zone while doing it, this is IMPOSSIBLE.  Let me give a quick example from my own personal life…

I often wanted to build my own business, make my own money, and never have to rely on a 9 to 5 office job.  From a young age I knew it was “my calling” so to speak.

Anyways after college I got a 9 to 5 job and it was okay for 6 months but then I really started resenting it.  The job was fine but I disliked the atmosphere, it often felt like going to jail everyday, and I hated the remedial stupid tasks they had me doing it.

So in my free time I would try to work on business ideas however I could never do it.  I just never really had the motivation to work another 3-4 hours after coming back from my boring day job.  You see I was trying to achieve my goal of building my own business without stepping outside my comfort zone.  It simply didn’t work.  So I knew what I had to do.  I had to quit, and figure it out from there, so I quit without really any kind of plan so to speak…

When I quit I faced another challenge.  I had great business ideas but the fear of failure had a really strong hold on me and I never really gave it my all.  In many ways I was a mess.  I let the fear of not knowing how I’m going to pay the rent really get a hold of me, and I crumbled.  So I eventually went back to another 9 to 5 job.  But guess what…

Six months into my 2nd job and I started feeling miserable going to work.  The job was good and it actually paid a lot of money.  So I decided to quit again.  Yet this time it was much harder, having failed the last time, I learned from my mistakes and put together an action plan to improve my chances of success this time…

I can’t even begin to tell you how uncomfortable it was to quit once again.  Even explaining it to my family and friends a 2nd time was a little tough.  They would often give these strange looks and think I’m going through some “phase” like a teenager or something and hope that I snap out of it soon and go back to the “real world”…

Anyways this time, I didn’t let fear hold me back, I really stretched my comfort zone in so many way that basically within 2 months of quitting I had setup a business idea that was making me $300 per month of passive income, income that kept coming in without me having to work for.  A month later I replicated the same idea and started another business that brought in more passive income, and things started taking of…

And the big key was stepping out of my comfort zone instead of letting my fears choke my creativity and my abilities.  So if you’re feeling stuck right now or in a rut, then you need to regularly get out of your comfort zone.

All Fun & No Work is No Fun

Friday, November 28th, 2008

I’ve often taken work for granted.  When I had a demanding 9 to 5 job I would often sit back and day dream about what it would be like to NOT have to work.  That was around 6 months ago.  Fast forward to today and guess what…

I’ve started working on building all sorts of passive income streams and don’t really have to work much these days.  Now of course I’m not making enough money to live on my own.  I’m currently living with my parents.  However other than paying rent I’m making enough money to cover all my other expenses.  Best of all I don’t really have to work to keep generating my current level of income.  As a matter of fact I only have to put in 2-3 hours of work each week to preserve my current income.

This is good and bad.  It’s good because I have more free time to do what I want.  Yet at the same time I’ve found myself kind of slacking the past few weeks.  I mean if you were in my shoes you’d understand or maybe i’m just pretty lazy :) But see when you don’t have a boss checking in on you, and aren’t broke you have to get yourself to work hard, which is a lot harder than it sounds.

Believe it or not.  I love what I do now.  Most of my income comes from services or products that help people improve their lives.  I certainly enjoy doing that much more than my boring 9 to 5 jobs where I was a desk zombie – kinda of like those guys in office space.  If you have a 9 to 5 job hopefully it’s more exciting than the office space career path to zombyville.

As You can probably tell, I still have a lot of aggression toward 9 to 5 jobs that I need to get out :)   Anyways Kind of went off on a tangent there.  Deep Breath.  Focus.  Okay so I’ve noticed a dangerous pattern with me lately.  I’m NOT having any kind of fun.

All the things I used to love doing are starting to seem dull and boring.  At first I thought that I just need to try out some new activities.  But I WAS WRONG.  And then it hit me like cold ice water falling out of a bucket:

All Fun and No Work is No Fun at All

In the past with my 9 to 5 schedule and working 10-12 hour days, anything other than work was lots of fun.  Weekends were awesome, I looked forward to Fridays and Saturday.  Now everyday for me feels like a weekend.  I no longer get that excitement.  So what’s the solution…

For the next couple of weeks I decided to set work hours for myself where I’ll work 5-6 hours daily no matter what.  This way I can enjoy the nights and weekends more instead of taking them for granted.

And if you think your life is too busy, that might be a blessing in decide.  I mean think about it, it’s all those boring activities like work, family and other crap you gotta do that make your free time really special.  Being busy helps you make the best of your free time, it makes you look forward to the weekend or to that night out with the guys (or gals).

In fact I’m starting to discover why hard work is a worthy value.  I’ve always wondered about those guys who become Internet billionaires overnight.  Like those guys who sold youtube to google.  There was always a question on my mind…

Why the hack didn’t those guys just retire for the rest of their lives and not work another day?  They certainly had more than enough money to do it…

I now realize that without work, it’s really hard to have fun.  I guess it’s kind of sick, but in order for us not to take our free time for granted we need “busy” time, or time where we gotta do all kinds of crap we don’t really enjoy.

Additionally without some kind of work it’s hard for someone to have purpose.  I mean think about it, no matter what you purpose is in life it often requires work.  And it’s work, and constant growth that results in happiness and feelings of well being.

So remember: All Fun and No Work is No Fun At All or is it?  Let me know what you think, leave a comment.
